A team from Egyptian MIST entered Gaza through the Rafah border crossing in late January 2009. They set up base camp at Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.
The team had brought urgently needed medical supplies and Ilizarov equipment so they could perform limb salvage surgery on the war injured. After staying 10 days and performing a number of operations, Egypt MIST left in February 2009 and the second team awaited entry into the Gaza Strip at the Rafah border .
